People—North America
For some reason, perhaps because of a desire not to disturb or offend people, street photography has proven difficult for me. But over the years I have managed to do some of it, more in Europe than in the U.S. Here are a few photographs of that genre that I have taken on this continent.
A musician at a street festival in Houston.
An audience at the same festival listening to a rock band.
The tired mother of a contestant in the Houston Livestock Show. That dark, out-of-focus form in the background is a large animal.
The father of a contestant. Lots of boredom and french fries.
A contestant. She’s surrounded by friends and getting a hair salon treatment. No naps for her.
The Houston International Festival highlights a different country every year. In 2008 the featured country was Turkey. This gracious lady, originally from Turkey but now a Houstonian, was a hostess. Her beautiful head covering is called a shayla. I looked it up.
Another woman at the same festival. Her lovely head covering is a khimar.
These guys are real Turks. Tough dudes.
Turkish popcorn.
Washington Avenue, Houston. This fellow was not happy to be photographed.
The proprietress of a wonderful Belgian restaurant in Houston.
On lunch break from a construction job on Washington Avenue, Houston.
Waitresses counting tip money in a Washington Avenue Mexican restaurant. Must be a good haul.
The whole merry crew.
A street person contemplates his future.
New York City. Early morning on Wall Street. Marching to work.
New York—checking the phone on the way to work.
A busy street scene next to New York’s Zuccotti Park near Wall Street.
This woman can’t believe what she’s seeing.
Here’s what she’s seeing—the earliest days of the Occupy Wall Street movement in Zuccotti Park.
I have no clue.
This handsome couple look like they have a shadow hanging over them.
A relaxed ride in an America’s Cup racing sailboat on a calm day in Newport.
Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia. This young lady was playing for tips, raising money for college.
On a New England/Eastern Canada cruise, the ship’s loudspeakers were playing opera one afternoon. These two were singing in Italian along with Luciano Pavarotti.
She must not like opera. Look at that clenched fist.
Other passengers enjoy the ship’s casino.
Slots take concentration.
The ship’s bartender at work.
Man and best friend in Georgetown, Texas.
This charming lady is imparting oenological knowledge at a winery in Napa Valley.
Encounter between strangers on the street.
